So there I was in the museum, looking at the work of an American artist who lived in the early part of the last century. He was there in this cafe, and the woman looking up at him was his subject. Now across eighty years, I do what I can, and put it to the viewer to interpret, capturing a look that is timeless across cultures and classes.
